Introducing… The New kay me Contemporary KIMONO Line for 2016

Looking to bring a little Japanese ‘wa’ to your wardrobe?

kay me’s Contemporary KIMONO line has been updated for 2016, with five beautiful new dresses designed and made in Japan especially for the coming season.
Our Contemporary KIMONO dresses are a great choice for every autumn event, from weddings and parties to evenings occasions at home or abroad. Stand out from the crowd with an elegant touch of authentic Japanese style.

kay me CEO and lead designer Junko Kemi explained her inspiration for the new mini-collection, saying that she wanted to explore geometric and floral motifs along with traditional kimono worn specially for auspicious events.

Ai Michelle

Delicate white flowers bloom on a dark teal background on our waist-gathered Ai Michelle dress, with just the right amount of petals picked out in a contrasting shade of orange-red. Highlight this lovely detail with a pair of red shoes (and lipstick to match!), or create a bright and timeless look with a white jacket and accessories.

Aka Michelle

Bringing warmth to any day, come rain or shine, the beautiful Aka Michelle dress is certain to become a holiday favourite. Handmade gathers at the waist and the gently flared skirt compliment the flowing orange and white florals and the soft grey of the print background. Add metallics for a modern city style, or neutral tones for the ultimate in glamour.

Toki Michelle

Taking direct inspiration from real antique kimono patterns, Toki Michelle is available in 100% silk jersey in our cache-coeur style. Our patented luxury easy-care fabrics are the height of sophistication, reinforced by the rich floral pattern on pink background. Take advantage of the cache-coeur cut and tie the ribbon any way you like – our kay me stylist recommends trying out a Japan-influenced obi-belt look.

Edo Murasaki

A favourite of Junko Kemi, our Edo Murasaki 100% silk dress is influenced by traditional Japanese colours and patterns dating from the Edo era (1603 – 1868) – the geometric design is offset by the mauve mallow flowers placed specially to echo the print position on kimono.
Junko also wore this dress to accept the first place in the Development Bank of Japan’s Women Entrepreneur Center awards – it’s become a hit in our Japanese stores!

Tokiwa Midori

Our Tokiwa Midori dress is available in 100% silk in kay me’s stunning asymmetrical gathered style, highlighting the pattern placement. Orange and teal leaves fan out against the soft drapes and bold graphics of this design, based on authentic imagery used in Japan for auspicious occasions. Add statement shoes to take this dress effortlessly from day to night.
